Genre Comparison

For this second paper, you will have an opportunity to tackle ONE specific theme, drawing on at least TWO writers (Booker W. Washington, Robert frost, T.S Elliot, Marianne Moore, Langston Hughes) we have considered. In doing so, you must examine at least TWO different genres (fiction, nonfiction, drama, or poetry). As you consider which texts you would like to work with, you may wish to consult the class syllabus, lecture videos, journals, quizzes, and your own notes. You should make a clear and definite argument in your paper about how your chosen theme functions in American literature. You should present your argument in a thesis statement at the beginning of the paper, accompanied by a brief signposting of supporting claims to follow. You should give attention to effective organization of your claims and substantiate your argument with ample textual evidence taken from the texts in the form of quotation and passage summary that you cite with page numbers. This paper should be about 1000 words long.
